The educational systems have been threatening to and have succeeded in removing much of the arts programs from the curriculums at schools around the country. Far from being unnecessary, the arts provide a vital part of our kids upbringing. They need to learn music, act in a play, write a short story or sing a solo in front of their whole school. These elements of life develop character and help children decide what they want to do with their lives, what kind of careers they want to pursue.
This does not mean that every child will want to be a musician or actor. Some will still choose science over the arts. But they need to be given the opportunity to explore and decide what they want. It is good for the body, the mind and the soul to be able to express inner emotions and feelings through painting, music or drama.
